Avondale Guest House is a lovely Victorian home ideally situated just a short stroll from the medieval ancient walls, all the attractions in the wonderful city of York, the racecourse and the train station.

All rooms are non smoking, en-suite and individually decorated including many personal touches to make your visit special. The family room has Spike, a cute little fluffy dog who can’t wait to be hugged by visiting little people, should you need them, we can also provide a cot and highchair. Our rooms have a hairdryer, alarm clock, TV and CD stereos, so don't forget to pack your favourite music! You will find all you need from the range of beverages on your hospitality tray, I will even provide wine glasses and a cooler for your wine!

A cosy, warm, comfortable and friendly home, the perfect place to relax and unwind after a days sightseeing.

We offer an extensive choice of breakfast including traditional, continental and vegetarian options made with fresh produce and free range eggs, why not start your day with our 'whisky porridge'!

Room Rate
£66 per night for two guests. Additional tariff for children dependant on age with under 4 years free of charge. Please check the website for details. A supplement of £6 will be added for a single night stay if it is available.

Directions

Directions by Train/Bus
York City Centre is mostly pedestrianised, so why not consider the train or coach services available from most parts of Britain. Trains from London take about 2 hours and from Edinburgh about 2 1/2 hours.

The walk from the train station to 'Avondale'
As you come out of the train station turn right and walk over the bridge, follow the road round and go up a slight hill to the traffic lights. Cross straight over the lights and walk down Nunnery Lane (the ancient city wall will be on your left). Stay on the pavement to the right hand side of the road as the road splits at the bottom. As you reach the end of Nunnery Lane turn right and walk past the shops, keep going straight and cross at the lights. Walk a little further and just past the bus stop the Avondale is on your right.

Directions by Car

From the South
From the A1(M) join the A64 leaving to join the A1036 York(West). Carry straight on, passing the racecourse on the right, as you reach the top of the hill go through the lights. At the next set of lights, turn right into Scarcroft Road, when you reach the end, turn right at the lights and Avondale House is just a few yards up the hill on the right.

From the North
A1 onto A59, follow straight ahead through the suburbs until you see the Iron Bridge, cross the bridge and turn right immediately after you have crossed. Follow the road round staying to the left at the lights, turn left and then move over to the furthest right hand lane to turn right into Scarcroft Road, when you reach the end, turn right at the lights and Avondale House is just a few yards up the hill on the right.
