Things To Do

The Scottish Borders is a wonderful small corner of Scotland, like Scotland in minature! Steeped in history, ancient abbeys, castles, keeps and great houses give a fascinating insight into times gone by. Riding, walking, cycling or driving, quiet country roads and paths weave through the rolling Border hills. Over fertile farming country to the dramatic red sandstone cliffs, and clear sandy beaches along the coast. A rich area for bird watching and wildlife encounters. The stunning countryside is a perfect setting for fishing - on the world famous River Tweed, or many other stretches of water and loch. Golfing - in fine settings on friendly local courses or on the challenging Roxburghe Championship course by Kelso, (make the most of The Borders “Freedom of the Fairways” pass), or mountain biking down the rugged tracks at Glentress in The Tweed Valley Forest Park, with it’s testing world championship course! The country has also inspired many exceptionally talented artists and craftsmen, working with pencil, paint, wood, metal, textiles, glass and clay. Over 80 different workshops and galleries welcome you, unique opportunities for retail therapy, so you can take home more than just memories! There’s always something going on in the borders with a diary full of festivals, local and national events throughout the year - The Border Union Show Ground at Kelso hosts, Championship Dog Shows, The Border Union Show, Antique Fairs, Vintage Tractor rallies and The Kelso Tup Sales. Walking, cycling and music festivals, massed Pipe Bands, rugby matches, Sevens Tournaments, national hunt race meetings, point-to-points and The Borders Festival of the Horse. The calendar of local music, arts, drama and dance keep tradition alive!
