Things To Do

Guisborough has much to offer the visitor. The XII Century Augustinian Priory ruins dominate the town and are certainly worth a visit. The Priory, built in 1129, was considered by Robert de Brus to be the best in England. The main hub of activity today, however, is Westgate. Westgate is a cobbled, street of shops, pubs, restaurants and businesses and stalls on market day. There is a market every Thursday and Saturday and small one on Tuesday, with specialist markets, such as the French Market and Farmers’ Market. Just walk around the town and enjoy the shops and markets. If you feel energetic there is a lovely walk up to the forest from Belmangate. Go past the Anchor Inn and keep going upwards until you reach the entrance to the forest, turn right walk along and enjoy the scenery.
